Define law, hypothesis and theory. How is the scope and depth of chemistry determined? And list the branches of chemistry and also write the importance of chemistry.

Law : A law is a summarized statement of results obtained by experiments. A law can say what happens but it can't answer why does it happen.

Hypothesis : A hypothesis is a proposed explanation for a phenomenon. For a hypothesis to be a scientific hypothesis, the scientific method requires that one can test it.

Theory : A theory is a proposed model introduced to establish a relationship between hypothetical causes and experimental observation ( effect).

The scope and depth of chemistry is  determined by the extent up to which properties, structures and application of different matters are investigated for learning.

The list of  branches of chemistry are:

1. Physical chemistry

2. Inorganic chemistry

3. Organic chemistry

4. Biochemistry

5. Environmental chemistry

6. Industrial and applied chemistry

7. Analytical chemistry, etc.

The importance of chemistry are :

1. Supply of Food :   The study of chemistry provided the world with chemical fertilizers such as urea, calcium superphosphate, sodium nitrate, and Ammonium Sulphate. These chemicals have helped greatly in increasing the yield of fruits, vegetables, and other crops.

2. Contribution to Improved Health and Sanitation Facilities :  Chemistry provided mankind with a large number of life-saving drugs. We could find a cure for dysentery and pneumonia due to the discovery of sulphur drugs and penicillin. Besides this, life-saving drugs like cisplatin and taxol are effective for cancer therapy and AZT is used for AIDS victim.

3. The Scope of Chemistry in War :   Chemistry plays an important role in the discovery of highly explosive substances such as TNT, nitroglycerine, and dynamite. It also plays a role in finding poisonous gases like mustard gas, Phosgene etc.

4. The Scope of Chemistry in Industry:  Chemistry plays an important and useful role towards the development and growth of a number of industries. This includes industries like glass, cement, paper, textile, leather, dye etc. We also see huge applications of chemistry in industries like paints, pigments, petroleum, sugar, plastics, Pharmaceuticals.

5. Increase in Comfort, Pleasure, and Luxuries:  Because of the advancements in science and the discoveries of chemistry, we lead a more comfortable life today.
