Explain the function of every component in a computer system.

Explain the function of every component in a computer system.

The components of computer system with their functions are as follows:

  1. Input Unit: The main function of input devices is to direct commands and data into computers. Computers then use their CPU to process this data and produce output.
  2. Memory Unit: It stores all the data and the instructions required for processing. It stores intermediate results of processing. It stores the final results of processing before these results are released to an output device. All inputs and outputs are transmitted through the main memory.
  3. Control Unit: The control unit of the central processing unit regulates and integrates the operations of the computer. It selects and retrieves instructions from the main memory in proper sequence and interprets them so as to activate the other functional elements of the system.
  4. ALU: The ALU performs simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and logic operations, such as OR and AND. The memory stores the program's instructions and data.
  5. Output unit:  The output unit is formed by the output devices attached to the computer. The output coming from the CPU is in the form of electronic binary signals which needs conversion in some form which can be easily understood by human beings that is, characters, graphical or audio visual.
