Introduction

Let’s talk about one of the most important things: Opportunity Fund. Especially if you are from middle-class family background or if you need financial support to apply to USA education.

Notice that I’m not saying to study in the USA, I’m saying to apply to study in the USA. Yes, it costs around 2 lakhs in the process of application which includes SAT registration, TOEFL registration, application fees, and visa fees. The Opportunity Fund Program will help you with these upfront costs. Let’s learn what it is.

The Opportunity Fund Program is the financial support offered by the American government to academically deserving and financially disadvantaged students. This is offered through United States Education Foundation (USEF). USEF is present in most countries to support the deserving students. In Nepal, it’s called “USEF Nepal”.

Here is the list of what they will pay for you.

  • TOEFL and SAT/ ACT registration fees.

  • College and university application fees.

  • Postage/courier fees for dispatching college and university applications.

  • U.S. student visa fees and SEVIS fees.

  • Travel to a testing center or U.S. Embassy (for students from outside the Kathmandu Valley).

To be eligible to apply, you should meet the following criteria.

  • Demonstrated financial need.

  • Outstanding academic records.

  • 80% or higher (pre-2016) or 3.60 or higher (2016 onward) on SLC/SEE in Nepal.

  • Completed Class 11 (or first year of A-Levels, or equivalent) and currently enrolled in Class 12 (or final year of A-Levels, or equivalent) with scheduled completion by summer [2022]; or completed Class 12 (or equivalent).

  • Applying for the undergraduate degree for Fall semester of [2023] at an accredited college or university in the United States.

If you are selected for the program, they will provide you with special guidance and advising on the college application process, college selection, scholarship search and other aspects of applying to and attending U.S. colleges and universities.
