Seed Banks
Seed banks refer to a collection of varieties of seeds of different species. It is one of the strategies of ex-situ conservation. The main objective of storage of seeds of different varieties is to conserve germplasm of plant species. In seed banks, seeds are preserved in constant low temperature and low moisture:- cryopreservation
Benefits
i. It conserves different plant species
ii. It preserves gene of organisms which can be utilized for the production of hybrid plants, transgenic plants, new varieties of high yield, disease resistant, stress-resistant and pest-resistant plants.
iii. It preserves genetic diversity which can be used for future use.
