SAT Introduction

Getting a 1400+ (and 1500+) SAT score is extremely important if you want full tuition scholarships (and full ride scholarships). A good SAT score also influences your chances of getting into competitive universities and colleges. It will also help you compensate for your lower GPA. So, you better not say “NO” to SAT even if it is optional to many universities.

Some universities follow a “SAT blind” policy. This means they will not look at the SAT score of the applicants no matter what. Here you don’t have to submit your SAT score.

SAT structure

There are two sections in the SAT: Reading and Writing, and Math.

Reading and Writing

In the reading and writing section, it will test your reading, understanding, and grammar skills. In the reading section, you will have to read passages and answer multiple choice questions. In the writing section, you will have to read passages and complete the sentence structure, grammar, sentence orders and so on.

Math

In the Math section, you will have to solve math problems. In the non-calculator section, the questions are simpler and you have to do calculations in your head. In the calculator section you will be able to use calculators.

Let’s look at the number of questions in each section of the SAT.

SAT Scores

SAT score ranges from 400 to 1600. You can score 800 in the reading and writing section and math section. A 1000+ score is considered good for getting admission. 1400+ score is needed for scholarships, and 1500+ score can help you to enter the competitive colleges and universities.

Sending Score

While registering for SAT, you can choose upto 5 universities to send scores for free. But at this moment you won’t know your score. I added the universities whose average SAT score requirement was around my regular score hits in practice tests. You can do the same. If you choose to submit your score after the test, you will have to pay $5 for each submission.
