What is surface tension? Does it depend on surface area of fluid?

Surface tension is the phenomenon caused due to intermolecular attraction between molecules of a fluid resulting the membranous behaviour of fluid. it is also defined as the energy required to increase the surface area of a fluid by a unit.

surface tension is the force for membranous behaviour, since force is independent of the area. surface tension is also independent of area. thus, for a fluid , value of surface tension for a fixed depth, temperature and standard conditions, value of surface tension is constant.
