4. Why is meiosis called reductional division and mitosis called equational division?

Meiosis is called reduction division because the number of chromosomes in daughter cells is reduced to half that of the parent cell whereas Mitosis is called equational division because the number of chromosomes and amount of DNA in daughter cells remains equal to parent cells.
