Democracy in Nepal was in danger for 2nd time after King Gyanendra seized all the power using the article 127 of then constitution and imposed direct rule. In this situation, to tackle it, the SPA (seven party alliance) and Maoist launched peoples' mass movt. II on 24th Chaitra 2062 BS. After the 19 days of movt. king returned the sovereignty and the power of the state to the people. Parliament was re-installed and a coalition govt. made agreement with the Maoist which ended the 10 years long peoples war. Later on 1st Magh, 2063 BS. interim constitution was declared. The historical election of CAI was held which declared Nepal as a Federal democratic republic state and ended shah dynasty. Therefore, there is immense role of political parties in mass movt. II.
