Introduction

 Classical Concept
↪ Oxidation is defined as the chemical process which involves the addition of oxygen or removal of hydrogen.





↪ The opposite of oxidation process is called reduction i.e. according to this concept reduction is the chemical process which involves the addition of hydrogen and removal of oxygen.






 Electronic Concept
↪ Oxidation is the loss of electrons by an atom, molecule or ion. {note: LEO = Loss of electrons oxidation}
↪ Similarly, reduction is the gain of electrons by an atom, molecule or ion.
