Introduction to Measurement
IntroductionIn our daily life, we come across many objects and things. We tend to use those things, too. When our mother or father cooks food, we can observe them adding salts, sugar, water, etc. i...
We have already discussed fundamental physical quantities and their units in earlier chapter of Measurement. In this chapter, we will discuss the names, symbols and units of all physical quantities suggested by the SI system of measurement.
List of Fundamental Physical Quantities and their Units
SN | Fundamental Quantities | Symbol | Fundamental Units | Symbol |
1 | Length | l | metre | m |
2 | Mass | m | kilogram | kg |
3 | Time | t | second | s |
4 | Current | I | ampere | A |
5 | Luminous Intensity | lv | candela | cd |
6 | Amount of Substance | n | mole | mol |
7 | Temperature | T | kelvin | K |
Above are the seven fundamental physical quantities described in the SI system. They have their own identity. They are used extensively. All other derived physical quantities are related to these physical quantities.
