List some of the economic importance of Fungi.

Fungi is a type of eukaryotic organism belonging to the kingdom fungi, alongside plants, animas, protozoa, and monera which includes yeast, mushroom, molds etc.

They reproduce by forming spores that can survive extreme conditions such as cold and lack of water both sexual and asexual spores may be produced on the species.

Some economic importance of fungi are :

  1. They play an important role in medicine by yielding antibiotics.
  2. In agriculture by maintaining soil fertility, are also consumed as food and forms the basis of many industries.
  3. Mushroom farming(which are rich in proteins and minerals and low in fat).
  4. Fungi are used in laboratory:

      (a) Baking yeast

      (b) Several alcoholic beverages such as wine, whisky, all are prepared by fermentation activity of sugar solution by wine yeast.

       5. Several fungi are used in commercial production of different organic products like citric acid, fumaric acid, lactic and  oxalic acid.
