Kalam is a renowned aerospace scientist. He was born into a middle class family. He had three brother and a sister. As, Kalam mentions an instance of discrimination against him in his school life. In the past days, there used to be lots of disputes of caste and religions in India. There is still a deep shadow among Hindus and Muslims in India. Here in this story, Kalam mentions that during his school time, He was discriminated against by the teacher in the classroom in the name of religion. His new teacher didn't like him to sit with his Hindu friend, Ramanathan. 

By mentioning this incident, Kalam wants to depict the religious issues prevalent among Indians at that time. Back then, Hindus and Muslims were treated differently due to severe religious segregation. The society was divided between Hindus and Muslims. His new teacher also believed in such partitions. Although the teacher was highly educated and intellectual person, his personality failed when it comes to humanity. For just being a Muslim guy, he was being discriminated by his teacher. He wants to depict the fact that the majority of people, even those with high education, believes in such partitions and only a minority disagree. Thus Abdul Kalam mentions an instance of discrimination against him in his school life to depict the painful incident of religious intolerance present in the society at that time.
