Charles Babbage is regarded as the father of computer as a result of his contributions to the basic design of the computer. He invented Difference Engine in 1822 and Analytical Engine in 1833.

The concept of input, output, processing and storage used by Charles Babbage in his analytical engine became the basis for the evaluation of using bits in his machine. Since the dream of modern computers has come true only due to Babbage's innovative idea, he is considered as the father of computer.

The Napier's bone is a set of graduated rods made up of wood, metal or heavy cardboard . A set consists of 9 rods corresponding to digits 1 to 9. These bones helped a lot in multiplication, division involving large numbers. John Napier, a Scottish mathematician, invented Napier's Bones in 1617.

The three disadvantages of the first generation of computers are listed below :

• They were relatively unreliable due to the failure of vacuum tubes and heating problem.
• The power consumption was very high and generated much heat.
• These computers had low level of accuracy and reliability.

Lady Augusta Ada Lovelace is known as first computer programmer because she was the person who suggested Charles Babbage to use binary number system in his Analytical engine and operated it for the first time.
