What is cerebrospinal fluid? List the functions of CSF.

Cerebrospinal fluid is a clear watery fluid which is slightly alkaline containing glucose, enzymes and salts ,that surrounds the brain as well as spinal cord. It is also present in the ventricles and central canal of spinal cord.

The functions of CSF are:-
1. It protects the brain and the spinal cord.
2. It forms spongy cushion in between the cranium and brain. Thus, it acts as shock absorbant.
3. It keeps the brain and spinal cord moistened.
4.It provides equal pressue around brain and spinal cord.
5.It provides the floating surface to the brain.
6.It provides essential nutrients and oxygen to the brain tissue.
7. It removes all the unwanted excretory waste products from brain.
